"Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.  It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your  heart."

ABOUT

Hi and welcome to Under The Bodhi Tree Yoga.  My name is Nadia and along with being a yoga instructor, I am also a physical therapist specializing in pelvic floor rehabilitation and a trauma survivor.  My experience as a physical therapist fosters an understanding and knowledge of muscle function, biomechanics and alignment.  As a trauma survivor, I have spent many hours investigating the effects of trauma and ways to heal from trauma.  After practicing as a physical therapist for more than a decade, I noticed an inability to “help” many patient’s heal from their chronic pain.  I also noticed that many of these same people had similarities that included histories of trauma, anxiety, depression, and chronic stress.  My own experience with chronic debilitating pain after the birth of my second child allows for greater compassion and understanding of chronic pain.  I returned to my yoga practice to help me manage and over come the pain.  As I made time most days of the week to attend a yoga class, I noticed a sense of ease begin to emerge.  The pain started to dissipate and I began to feel " I can mange this, life's not so bad”.  A series of events over the coming years led to physical illness, pain, and uneasiness.  I made a commitment to my yoga practice and with it I started to feel an improvement in my symptoms.  In the fall of 2015, I decided that I needed more, that I wanted to deepen my practice, I wanted to understand what this 5000 year old science called Yoga is all about.

In the Fall of 2015, I enrolled in my first yoga teacher training at Grounded By Yoga in Canandaigua, NY.   My first 200 hour training was in Hatha Yoga - Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Cancer Thriver.  My love for learning motivated me to continue my yoga studies and  pursue trainings in Restorative Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Yoga for Trauma Recovery, Pre-natal and Post-Partum Yoga, Baby and Toddler Yoga, Children’s Yoga, Yoga for Pelvic Pain, Foundations For Yoga Therapy, Introduction to Ayurveda, and Sound Medicine.  My yoga classes are a fusion of all of my learning and growth throughout my years of practice.  I bring an evidence-based approach to my classes while teaching from the heart.

My life has drastically improved through my study and practice of Yoga.  Yoga has empowered me to honor myself and allow for healing from my past.  Yoga allows me to stay grounded and present in the moment, letting go of the past and not worrying about the future.  I can honestly say that I am at peace, I can feel that sense of calm within that I have never felt before.  Yoga has allowed me to align with my true self to be the person I am meant to be.  The Universe has a funny way of always pushing us to be better.  There is greatness in each of us if only we can be quiet enough to listen.

Under The Bodhi Tree Yoga was created to provide a warm, welcoming, and trauma-sensitive environment for all people to practice Yoga.  It is my joy to share these gift and knowledge with each of you to allow you to explore your practice without judgement. Yoga is not about how long we can hold a pose (Asana) or how perfect our alignment is, rather it is the practice of integrating the mind, body, spirit.  Yoga is a way of life not an aerobic exercise.  It is being the best person that you can be, showing compassion and kindness to all living beings.
